Does anyone know of a US cell phone company that offers International Roaming on a “Pay as you go” plan?
Question by sailingmariner: Does anyone know of a US cell phone company that offers International Roaming on a “Pay as you go” plan?
I have T-Mobile “Pay as you go”, when I bought this plan, I was told by them that I can get International Roaming on my phone. Well it seems that T-Mobile jacked me, it is not offered on “Pay as you Go”. Even though I called customer service, the service rep said that I now have it activated, I arrive in Japan, smack dab in the middle of the bright green coverage area for T-Mobile and no service. I emailed them and am now told that international service is not offered on “Pay as you Go”. So now I have to buy a Japanese SIM card in order to use my phone. I want a pay as you because I barely use my cell in the US, and I want to be able to receive calls from the US without the calling party needing to dial an international number. If no one knows of a “Pay as you Go” plan, does anybody have a recommendation for a company that has a fairly reliable International Roaming? My international travel is mostly in So. East/West Asia; any information is appreciated.

If you plan on using your cell outside of the country, you need a region-specific SIM card. Japan is no exception. The fact that your T-Mobile plan didn’t work in Japan is not the fault of T-Mobile’s service network, but of your phone’s capabilities. This is no different with any other network plan. Alltel, Verizon GO, Virgin Mobile, and T-Mobile all offer similar pay-as-you-go plans, but no matter what you do, you’ll still need a SIM card. Go with whichever works best for your schedule, budget, and convenience.
